Journey to Motherhood: Why Maternity Sessions Matter More Than You Think

Maternity sessions document a short but meaningful chapter. The goal is to create images that feel calm, elegant, and personal.

Choose a Comfortable Setting

Start with somewhere you can move, sit and take a break comfortably. Tell us whether you prefer home or an outdoor location, how far you want to walk and whether stairs or uneven ground would make the session harder. For a park or other managed space, confirm photography permission and access before settling on the location. We can discuss a weather alternative rather than relying on a long outdoor walk.

Keep Styling Simple

Pick clothes that feel comfortable while standing and sitting. Bring the outfit you want to wear most and describe any second look before choosing a session length. Coordinated colors can work without everyone wearing the same thing. Small keepsakes, baby shoes or an ultrasound print can be included if you want them in the story, but they are optional. Keep the photo list centered on the people and details you actually value.

Include Your Story

Say who will join: you alone, a partner, children or another support person. Plan a few individual portraits and a few combinations together, with breaks for younger children if needed. For scheduling, tell us the period you are considering and what feels manageable for you. The session does not require a specific pose or a particular stage of pregnancy to be meaningful.

Match the session to the people and photo list

Maternity sessions use our published portrait options. The $80 mini is 30 minutes for one person or a couple, with up to 10 edited images and one outfit. The $125 option is 1 hour for up to 4 people with up to 20 edited images; the $200 option is up to 2 hours for up to 6 people with up to 30 edited images and lighting brought to the location. Travel allowances differ by package. Include everyone joining when we confirm the best fit.

What to send before booking

Share your preferred dates, town, people joining, clothing ideas and whether you need a low-walking or indoor plan. Ask about availability, the actual setup, weather arrangements and delivery timing before booking. View the maternity photography archive to see the existing photographs. If you are also thinking ahead to later family photographs, our Cairo and Caiden milestone galleries show two different family stages.
